The Matilda Effect

The Matilda Effect refers to the tendency to ignore or attribute to men the discoveries made by women. This injustice has long erased essential female researchers from scientific memory.

A striking example is Rosalind Franklin, whose X-ray diffraction images revealed the double helix, but whose role was long unrecognized.
